In surfing the blogosphere I have at times come across those mothers...you might even be one.
They are the mothers who post pictures of their three-year-olds learning how to iron, or already ironing proficiently, happy to contribute to the well-run household. They have from 1-3:00 on Tuesdays set aside for ironing each week.
Well, the other day (oh, ok, it was back in December before Isaac came back from deployment), I pulled out the iron and ironing board and Chloe walked up, and looked at me and said, "Mommy, what is that?"
"It's an iron and an ironing board."
"Oh. What do you do with it?"
And just a few minutes later, Luke walked up and said, "Mommy, what is that?"
And so it is my solemn goal that sometime in the next two years Audrey will see an iron and an ironing board, and will walk up and say, "Mommy, what is that?"
Because I'm going to try really hard not to get it out again until then.

I think ironing is a lost art. After all who REALLY irons? haha
Amen and Amen. I so agree. I avoid ironing at all costs.
I never iron, but rely on the dryer and 'wrinkle free' spray instead. As a result my 13 year old daughter things it's great fun and a complete novelty to iron!
So really- I'm not lazy. It's just another example of my parenting genius!
I got the biggest giggle out of this post! Last week I was checking out all the neat things at Pottery Barn Kids (i believe) anyway they had the CUTEST iron and board for sale and I started to get it for Sarah (2) but after thinking about it didn't because she does not even know what it is!

I too avoid ironing...hubby's uniforms are the only things that ever get ironed.
My ironing typically is comprised of turning the dryer to "fluff" and pushing the start button. (Often this happens several times in a row because I don't get there to take the clothes out right when it finishes. Oops!)
Wow. Way to make me feel guilty. Fine! I will show my ironing board to my fifteen year old and explain why I have an antique hiding in the closet. ROFL! She probably thinks its used for extra space for dishes at Thanksgiving...or sledding...or....
You know what? I really DO have an antique wooden one propped up against the wall by the fireplace.
maybe the novelty of it all will rub off on the next generation and make ironing the "it" thing once again.
I for one, could care less about ironing, eh, what's a wrinkle here or there? :)

I also use the dryer to iron my clothes. Although usually they've sat there so long that I have to toss a damp washcloth in and re-dry them!
Maybe I should consider not ironing now a long-term parenting strategy, so that they'll be intrigued by it when they're older!

Okay, I know. But I only admit it to keep my mom from looking bad. My kiddos...they will not know what an ironing board is.

Awesome! I loooooooooathe ironing, too. I try to keep my ironing limited to no more than three items per week whenever possible. I hate it so!
Hear, Hear! I don't iron. I put it back in the dryer or just don't wear it! My excuse is that it seems so dangerous to have my kids running circles around something so hot. But truthfully, I'm too lazy.
So with you girl! I don't iron. at all. ever. My kids would have no clue what "that thing" is. Pull the pants out after 20 mins in the dryer, hang em to dry and THAT is how I iron!
Too cute! My child doesn't know what it is either except that it gets hot and to stay away.
